Today, Harvesters’ ministry is touching more than 550 lives – orphans, school children, widows and staff.
Our goals...
-
To provide quality, Christ-centered care to orphans until they are able to leave and adequately care for themselves.
-
To duplicate our model for the orphanage and school throughout southern Sudan and other nations.
-
To instruct the children and the adults caring for them in evangelism, discipleship, and vocational skills to impact their communities for Christ.
We currently serve more than 150 orphans
in our facilities, and our school
provides a Christian education to more
than 500 students. In addition to our
school-age orphans, more than 400 children from surrounding villages attend our school.
The Harvesters compound consists of 90 acres of land donated by the southern Sudan government. Since our beginning in 2001, we have built houses, dorms, classrooms and other facilities within a fenced compound.
Within our fenced area of approximately 30 acres, we grow a variety of food products for use in the orphanage and school – bananas, beans, cabbage, corn, greens, onions, pineapples and tomatoes, to name just a few.
Outside of the fenced area, we raise
chickens to provide eggs for the children's diets. The other acreage outside of the fenced area will be used to expand our growing operation and for tilling for additional vegetation in the future.
Through a strong faith-based education and community outreach program, students and adults alike are introduced to the love of Jesus. We provide
- A quality Christian education
for pre-K through Primary 7
- Daily chapel services
- Discipleship classes for teachers, staff and the older children
- Extracurricular activities including drama Biblical competitions, storytelling and poetry, and sports and games including soccer and basketball
There is still much work for us to do. In the near future, we plan to
- Continue to recruit better qualified, trained and committed teachers
- Provide additional training courses/workshops for our teachers
- Attract more of the children from the villages to attend our Children’s Church on Sundays
- Build a library, expand our school facilities, and build additional missionary housing
- Train our children to stage Easter/Christmas dramas in remote villages to reach out to other children.
Everyone knows that the children of any nation are its leaders of tomorrow. We believe that God has given us this opportunity to make an eternal difference in the lives of the little ones we touch in Sudan and to raise them up to be the leaders of that great nation.
