Today, Harvesters' ministry is touching more than 550 lives - orphans, school children, widows and staff.
Our goals...
-
To provide quality, Christ-centered care to orphans until they are able to leave and adequately care for themselves.
-
To instruct the children and the adults caring for them in evangelism, discipleship and vocational skills to impact their communities for Christ.
-
To expand our role as the hands and feet of Christ by providing effective medical care to women and children in Yei.
-
To duplicate our model for the orphanage and school throughout South Sudan and other nations.
We currently serve more than 190 orphans
in two locations in South Sudan - Yei and Terekeka. Our school in Yei
provides a Christian education to more
than 500 students. In addition to our
school-age orphans, more than 400 children from surrounding villages attend our school.
The Harvesters compound in Yei consists of 90 acres of land donated by the Southern Sudan government. Since our beginning in 2001, we have built houses, dorms, classrooms and other facilities within a fenced compound. We use the land we own beyond the fencing for planting and growing corn, tomatoes and other vegetables for use in the orphanage.
Harvesters' compound in Terekeka, South Sudan opened in 2010. At this compound we currently provide care for 40 orphans, but will grow to 80 in the near future. We have built houses, dorms and a clinic within a five acre, fenced compound. Additional facilities, including a church and school classrooms, will be built in the near future as the needs and resources dictate.
Through a strong faith-based education and community outreach program, students and adults alike are introduced to the love of Jesus by providing:
- A quality Christian education
for pre-K through Primary 7 in Yei
- Daily chapel services
- Discipleship classes for teachers, staff and the older children
- Extracurricular activities including drama Biblical competitions, storytelling and poetry, and sports and games including soccer and basketball
There is still much work for us to do. In the near future, we plan to:
- Continue to recruit better qualified, trained and committed teachers
- Provide additional training courses/workshops for our teachers
- Attract more of the children from the villages to attend our Children's Church on Sundays
- Complete the women's maternal ward and children's health care center in Yei (His House of Hope)
- Build a school in Terekeka
Everyone knows that the children of any nation are its leaders of tomorrow. We believe that God has given us this opportunity to make an eternal difference in the lives of the little ones we touch in South Sudan and to raise them up to be the leaders of that great nation.
