MISSION

Harvesters Reaching the Nations (HRTN) is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christ-centered organization committed to discipling, educating and caring for orphans worldwide. We are working to realize a vision: a world where children are living as disciples of Christ, free from spiritual, economic and social poverty.

HISTORY

For many years, Dennis and Lillian Klepp, an ordinary couple from Wisconsin, were actively involved in their church's ministries. They always had a heart for orphans and participated in a number of short-term mission trips. Though they had faithfully been serving God for a number of years, they were determined to do more. Seeking God's wisdom, Lillian asked God to show her what His will was for them.

In 1999, Lillian heard a speaker talk about the plight of orphans and widows in Sudan. For more than 20 years, Sudan was in a vicious civil war that left more than 2 million people dead and 6 million people homeless. The fighting, hunger and disease left thousands of women and orphans with no place to go.

Stirred by this message, Lillian prayed a simple prayer, "Lord, what can I do?" The Lord's response? "Sell all you have and give it to the poor." Believing that this was God's call to them, Dennis and Lillian sold all of their belongings and moved to Sudan in 2001 to begin their journey of giving to the poor with their lives.

What began with the clearing of land and the making of bricks by hand, quickly became a home and haven for orphans in the region. Caleb was one of the first orphans to arrive at Harvesters. Two weeks old and without a mother, Caleb had been fed nothing but sugar water since his birth. Even though she was sure he would die, Lillian took in Caleb, fed him, cared for him, and prayed for him. Caleb is now a happy, healthy toddler, the first of many who are being transformed by the extraordinary work of this couple who simply obeyed the call of God.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe the Bible is the inspired and only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We believe that there is only one God eternally existent is three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, His present rule as Head of the Church, and His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that all mankind has sinned and therefore is alienated from God and under His judgment and wrath and that the only hope for mankind’s redemption is in Jesus Christ the Son of God. Salvation for lost man is found only in Christ and is appropriated by faith alone in Christ and the regeneration of the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, whose indwelling enables the Christian to live a Godly life, empowering the Christian to be of service to Christ in His Church and in the world.

We believe that born in the Spirit believers in Christ, no matter what kindred, tongue or tribe are unified in spirit and make up the Church, the Body of Christ.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved unto the resurrection of life and the lost unto the resurrection of the damned.

OUR PURPOSE

To glorify and be obedient to the Word of God by fulfilling Matthew 28:19-20 and James 1:27.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27
